IECEP UAE 12th Anniversary celebration adapts to new normal in the Covid-19 era. Amidst of pandemic, the organization celebrated its 12 years of existence through virtual gathering via Cisco WebEx Meetings last 24th July 2020 that was attended by different foreign chapters from UAE, KSA, Bahrain, Singapore, Qatar, and Canada. Despite time differences, participants from local chapters were also present such as Cavite, Manila, Northern Mindanao, Lupang, Bicol, Palawan, Negros Occidental, Batangas, Pampanga, SOCCSKSARGEN , and Rizal. The webinar entitled IECEP UAE 12th Anniversary and Midyear General Membership Meeting has 4 major parts: Technical Seminar, BECE Hour, IECEP Hour / 12th Anniversary Celebration, and the Midyear General Membership Meeting.

Dr. Mishell D. Lawas, IECEP National Vice President – Education, was the technical resource speaker, and she presented a timely topic entitled “The Impact of Covid-19 to the Academe”. She explained that the impact of Covid-19 to the academe made it up-side-down, a 360-degree up-side-down. The careers of this year’s university graduates may be severely affected by the Covid-19 pandemic. Different strategies that will tailor fit with the requirement of higher education in this time of pandemic in the private sectors have been shared. Despite restrictions and unavailability of resources to suffice the recent educational requirement, she thought that solutions and opportunities will be there, to do whatever we can, to make changes to overcome these circumstances, that in every hard time, there’s always a turning point and to think of it as an opportunity.

Participants’ insights and questions were addressed in the Question and Answer portion after the presentation. The link of the online evaluation form was shared with the attendees to express their comments, feedback, and suggestion for the improvement of the chapter’s upcoming events, wherein part of the assessment was quiz-type items to measure the learnings gained from the topic.
