In celebration of ICT Month 2020, IECEP UAE brought in very special guests and resource speakers from the Philippine government, whose department’s main responsibility is to plan, develop and promote the country’s Information and Communications Technology (ICT) agenda in support of national development. Assistant Secretary for Resilient Government Emergency Communications, (ASec) Alan A. Silor and Engineer Benjz Gerard M. Sevilla, both from the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), marked a highly inspired webinar. ASec Silor, being our Inspirational Guest Speaker imparted words of encouragement and provided updates concerning the DICT, while Engr. Sevilla shared his invaluable expertise and experience on the topic, “Updates on the ICT – Landscape and Emergency Telecommunications.”
ASec Alan A. Silor, the Assistant Secretary for Operations at the Department of Information and Communications Technology, has been in the ECE field for more than 10 years, first as an entrepreneur who served as the VP of Business and Government Affairs Industry for Filipino Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Agusan City in the Philippines, prior to serving in the public sector as the ICT Consultant to the City Mayor of the Local Government Unit of Butuan City. In 2016, he was appointed as one of the Assistant Secretaries at the DICT. He has since been effectively engaged in various DICT projects in and out the Philippines.
Engineer Benjz Gerard M. Sevilla has a BA honors degree in Electronics and Communications Engineering (ECE) from Ateneo de Manila University (AdMU), Philippines. Prior to joining civil service, He had numerous involvements with multi-disciplinary teams in various countries in Asia and the Pacific. He also serves as the Secretary of the Institute of Electronics Engineers of the Philippines, QC (IECEP – QC) and the Vice-Chair of Professional Development of Government ECEs (PAGE). He is the Chief of Staff of the Assistant Secretary for Resilient Government Emergency Communications at the Department of Information and Communications Technology.
The 4th webinar in this series brought together about 170 of highly interested parties from various parts of the world, working in Electronics Engineering, Technology and Communications fields to exchange ideas, discuss innovative and emerging solutions and to develop collaborations.
Some key points from the webinar includes the evolution of the ICT agencies in the Philippines and the major developments as it transits since from CICT to DICT, the 3rd Major Telecommunications Player that will soon be in the market to compete with the existing 2 Telco giants in providing a better service to the people, the current status of the Government emergency response, strategies, plans and preparations in addressing disasters, modernization of the current infrastructure to improve the government and its peoples readiness and preparedness in case of disaster.
The webinar started at around 10 AM (GMT+4) and formally ended at approximately 1 PM (GMT+4).
The second part of the program was an open forum where the participants had the chance to talk and ask questions to our guests from Board of Electronics Engineers of the Philippines Engr. Rico Delmoro and Dr. Alnar Detalla.
The entire 3-hour program was full of information sharing and enjoyment to all of the attendees. It was a very fruitful day to everyone.
