IECEP UAE Chapter Midyear Convention and Third Technical Seminar

Inspiration. Insight. Information.

These three words perfectly capture the spirit of the IECEP UAE Chapter Midyear Convention and Third Technical Seminar, held on May 24, 2025, at the Royal Rose Hotel in Abu Dhabi.

The event opened on a powerful note with a heartfelt keynote speech from none other than Dr. Rosula SJ. Reyes, fondly known as the “Mother of IECEP UAE.” Her words resonated deeply with every participant, as she spoke about focusing on what truly matters—even when things are beyond our control—and equipping oneself for the challenges ahead. A true visionary, Dr. Reyes also shared exciting updates on her current projects and how they are set to shape the future of engineering. She inspired the audience to set clear goals and take deliberate steps toward achieving them.

Following the keynote, Engr. Joseph Aggiao, our very own “Firewall Man,” delivered a dynamic technical seminar on “Network Firewall Principles, Design, and Implementation.” Through live demonstrations and real-time troubleshooting, he brought complex cybersecurity concepts to life. His session offered a hands-on understanding of how firewalls function, safeguard users, and defend against online threats—practical knowledge every engineer appreciated.

Adding a personal and entrepreneurial touch to the day, Engr. Virgilio Javier, dubbed the “Businessman in Action,” gave an engaging talk on “Business Literacy for Engineers.” With heartfelt honesty, he shared stories of his own struggles and triumphs, highlighting the resilience needed to turn failures into stepping stones. His message: engineers can thrive not only in the technical field but also in the world of entrepreneurship and proprietorship.

Capping off the event, IECEP UAE Governor Mark Nhel Gasangue delivered the Midyear Report with well-deserved pride and enthusiasm. He celebrated the chapter’s achievements, made possible through the dedication of the Board of Trustees and the unwavering support of its members. Among the highlights:

The launch of the inspiring outreach program “ECE TALK 2025”, which brings engineering awareness and career guidance to students in the Philippines.

A successful series of physical and online trainings and seminars.

Support for SPLE preparations and activities.

Milestones in membership growth and professional advancement, including participation in the ASEAN Engineering Registry and PECE mentorship programs.

Meaningful collaborations with other organizations, like the World Engineers Day Sportsfest and Technical Seminar.

Gov. Mark closed his report with sincere gratitude to all members who continue to stand by the chapter despite challenges, proving once again the strength of this vibrant community.

As the curtains closed on a truly inspiring day, the event hosts, Engr. Vince Jilmer Nambio and Engr. Dee-jay Reytiran, reflected with joy and fulfillment. They shared how the opportunity helped them discover and develop new talents—another testament to how the IECEP UAE Chapter continually empowers its members.

This one-day gathering was more than just a seminar—it was a celebration of excellence, unity, and growth. The energy, knowledge, and camaraderie shared will surely echo in the minds and hearts of everyone who attended.
